What does it mean to create? There are a lot of definitions, like this one, this one, or this one. To summarize, these definitions generally have to do with coming up with something unique from one’s imagination. OK, great. You imagined something unique and wonderful but, what’s next?
Now, you have to do something with that new idea. You know, act on it, otherwise, you’re just using your imagination. If you don’t act on it, that something is still intangible.
You can’t touch it. You can’t show it to your best friend or your significant other. But, when you put it into action, like sketching that image that keeps popping into your head, writing that story or proposal, stitching together that craft, or sitting down on the piano bench to play that melody that comes to you in your sleep, it becomes tangible. You can hang it on your wall, show it to others (if you wish), or keep it in your private files. The important thing is it’s no longer just your imagination. It’s real now. You created something.
So, think of something unique and act on it.
